The top of Reservoir Canyon can be reached from either Lizzie Street near San Luis Obispo High School or else the trail head off of Highway 1.

If you choose to take the Lizzie Street way it can be a great workout. I find this hike to be one of the steeper hikes found on the Central Coast and one of the hotter ones. The top of Lizzie Street is nice because it leads directly toward what was formally called red tower but is now better known as green tower because of a change in paint. The small tower sits at the top of the hike as if to mark the fact that you completed something. This hike is used by local fire crews to test them for employment by asking them to run up the trail in twenty minutes or less!

The Highway 1 trail is great in way that it gives a different view of some hills that you are not able to see from any of the other hikes in San Luis Obispo. Right before you reach the top of this hill you will find a swing right off the side of the trail. This trail is a lot better if looking for a more leisurely and shadier hike.
