Morro Bay Kayaking (Reason #95)

Reasons to kayak in Morro Bay:

1) There are always plenty of sea otters, seals, and other sea creatures to paddle around.

2) You can kayak across to the Sand spit where you can explore the sand dunes in a very secluded area.

3) You can appreciate the "fisherman" town feel that the Morro Bay Harbor and restaurants on the water give off.

4) From the water you get a unique perspective on Morro Rock (one of the seven sisters in San Luis Obispo).

5) Kayaking prices are generally cheaper here than anywhere else on the Central Coast!

Grab a picnic basket, a warm coat, and a good attitude to take your time cruising by the sailboats that are docked in the bay and the marine life that surrounds them. Gaze at the massive rock that marks the middle of Morro Bay and make your way across the water to the Sand spit. Pulling up your kayak (and getting your feet a little wet) you can hike around on the massive sand dunes until reaching their peaks and watching the waves crash down on the other side. My favorite part about this spot is how little visitors the Sand spit receives making it feel as though you're on your own little island once you're exploring the Sand dunes. This makes for a great day trip as long as it is not too cold!
